Two people who were employed at the Ajax FC Soccer Club have been charged after allegedly defrauding more than $650,000 of league funds, say Durham police.
Vicki Scott, 50, of Whitby, Ont., and Richard Karikari, 47, of Ajax, Ont., are charged individually with fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust, according to a police news release on September 30.
Scott is also charged with laundering proceeds of a crime, and Karikari is charged with possession of proceeds of a crime, according to the release.
Investigators say the force's financial crimes unit started a fraud investigation in December 2024, following reports of irregularities in the soccer club’s banking transactions.
The investigation, which analysed years of financial statements, revealed that more than $650,000 of league funds were transferred from the soccer club to various accounts from early 2023 to 2024, police say.
