Hinton council raising property tax
22-Dec-2025.
Hinton town council is taking financial steps toward addressing the aging Dr. Duncan Murray Centre, after a plebiscite in October that revealed most voters in the western Alberta town want a brand new recreation centre.
Council approved the 2026 budget, which included raising property taxes by an estimated $23 per month, based on the average home value of $400,000. Of that increase, $19 per month is earmarked to go toward recreation.
By the end of 2026, Mayor Brian Laberge says $1.75 million will be in the recreation centre reserve fund.
