Turkish authorities have detained more than 100 suspected ISIS members after uncovering alleged plans to carry out attacks targeting Christmas and New Year celebrations, officials said on Dec 25, according to the Associated Press.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said police launched coordinated raids across Istanbul after receiving intelligence that the extremist group had called for action during the holiday period, particularly against non-Muslims.

Authorities issued arrest warrants for 137 suspects, detaining 115 of them during raids on 124 locations, the statement said. Officers seized firearms, ammunition and documents during the operation.

Police said the suspects were linked to the Islamic State which has previously targeted religious minorities and public gatherings.
