Novak Djokovic has announced a dramatic split from the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), the players’ organisation he helped found six years ago, citing deep-seated concerns about its governance, transparency, and how his voice and image have been handled.

The decision marks a major turning point for the organisation and opens fresh questions about the future of player representation in professional tennis.

In a statement on social media on Jan 11, Djokovic said: “After careful consideration, I have decided to step away completely from the Professional Tennis Players Association.

This decision comes after ongoing concerns regarding transparency, governance, and the way my voice and image have been represented.”

He highlighted pride in the original vision behind the PTPA but said that “it has become clear that my values and approach are no longer aligned with the current direction of the organisation.”
