Director of Essential Services Nayagam P.K. Prabath Chandrakeerthi has requested that all extra classes be suspended on Wednesdays. This follows recent government measures to prioritise essential services and manage fuel usage efficiently.

The Wednesday holiday applies to government offices, councils, and agencies, and is extended to public, private, and international educational institutions. All government festivals are temporarily suspended, with private institutions encouraged to manage staff online where possible. Essential services, including healthcare, banking, electricity, water, ports, customs, and aviation, are exempt.
