Sanju Samson breaks Virat Kohli's record with 46-ball 89 in T20 World Cup final
09-Mar-2026.
Sanju Samson produced a sensational knock in the T20 World Cup final, smashing 89 off just 46 balls to register the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final.
The Indian opener broke West Indies batter Marlon Samuels' long-standing record during the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup summit clash against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8.
HIGHEST INDIVIDUAL SCORE IN T20 WORLD CUP FINAL
Sanju Samson - 89 vs New Zealand in 2026
Marlon Samuels (WI) - 85 vs England in 2016
Kane Williamson (NZ) - 85 vs Australia in 2021
Samson also bettered compatriot Virat Kohli's 77, which came in a losing cause against Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup final.
In doing so, Samson became only the third batter after Kohli and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi to score a fifty in both the semi-final and the final of a T20 World Cup.
