A 28-member Steering Committee has been appointed under the Eelam Tamil Constitutional Constituent Assembly to prepare a draft political settlement framework representing the collective position of Tamil political stakeholders.

According to a statement issued by Coordinator Dr. T. Vigneswaran, the decision was taken at a meeting held in February at Ilangai Kalainjar Mandapam in Jaffna under the Tamil National Council.

The meeting, attended by civil society groups, political representatives, academics, and religious leaders, agreed to reject any unitary-state-based solution and to base the framework on the Thimpu Principles.

The Steering Committee includes political leaders, academics, lawyers, civil society representatives, and experts from both the Northern and Eastern Provinces and the Tamil diaspora.

The committee will prepare a draft framework recognising Tamil homeland aspirations, self-determination, and sovereignty, including proposals for a social contract between the Tamil and Sinhala nations, as well as detailed federal governance arrangements to ensure autonomy within a broader constitutional framework.
