Lebanon, Israel agree to US-mediated meeting on April 14
13-Apr-2026.
Lebanon and Israel have held rare direct contact through a telephone call between their ambassadors in Washington, signalling a possible breakthrough in efforts to de-escalate tensions. Both sides agreed during the exchange to hold a formal meeting on April 14, at the US State Department in Washington, with the United States acting as mediator.
According to a statement from the Lebanese presidency on April 10, the call was facilitated by the United States and also included the US ambassador to Lebanon. The exchange marks a rare instance of direct engagement between the two sides, which technically remain in a state of conflict and do not share formal diplomatic relations.
