Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko has pledged Russia’s full cooperation to enhance Sri Lanka’s primary healthcare sector and strengthen it through modern technologies, including artificial intelligence.

The Minister made these remarks during a discussion held at the Ministry of Health and Mass Media on May 4 with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and senior officials, during his three-day official visit to Sri Lanka.

Minister Murashko stated that Russia prioritises primary healthcare services and has successfully adopted modern technologies for accurate disease diagnosis. He noted that advanced AI-supported equipment packages have been developed in Russia to identify 42 types of diseases commonly found among rural and urban populations, and to enhance laboratory services and paediatric diagnosis.

He said Russia is prepared to share this technological expertise with Sri Lanka.

The Russian Minister also stated that Russia is willing to provide advanced medical training for Sri Lankan doctors and expressed interest in strengthening the pharmaceutical supply chain between the two countries. He further said Russia is ready to extend support to help Sri Lanka overcome prevailing challenges, including energy-related issues.

He emphasised that these initiatives could be implemented more effectively through a new Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

Minister Murashko also extended an official invitation to Minister Jayatissa and Sri Lankan officials to visit Russia to directly study the country’s modern treatment systems and technological infrastructure.

Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, Russian Ambassador Levan Dzhagaryan and Ministry Secretary Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe were among the senior officials present at the meeting.
