The Magistrate's Court has ordered that Janaki Sirivardana, former director of the Krrish Group, who is in remand custody in connection with transactions involving the company, be further remanded until November 20.

The order was issued when the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama on November 6.

Although MP Namal Rajapaksa was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate's Court on November 3, he continues to remain in remand custody in connection with another case relating to the Airbus transaction, which is pending before the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar.

During the proceedings, Deputy Director General Tanuja Bandara, appearing for the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, submitted a further investigation report and made several submissions before court.

She informed court that statements had already been recorded from several key witnesses, including the Colombo Divisional Secretary and a former Land Commissioner, and that further statements would be obtained from several others.

In particular, she pointed out that a copy of a document signed by the fourth suspect had been forwarded to the Government Analyst for fingerprint and handwriting examination. The Government Analyst had, however, requested the original document.

She explained that the original document was currently attached to another case being heard at the Colombo High Court Complex, Court No. 7. As the Bribery Commission was not a party to that case, it was unable to obtain the document directly.

Accordingly, she requested court to issue an order directing that the relevant document be sent to the Government Analyst within one day and returned to court thereafter.

Having considered the submissions, the Magistrate directed the Bribery Commission to submit a clear written explanation of the matter to court.

Meanwhile, the lawyer appearing for Janaki Sirivardana, the third suspect in the case and former director of the Krrish Group, informed court that a bail application would be filed on behalf of his client.
