Indian Defence Minister Meets Opposition Leader

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa met Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on an official visit to Sri Lanka, in Colombo. The two held important discussions on bilateral relations and regional security.
During the meeting, extensive attention was given to the long-standing and multi-faceted relations between Sri Lanka and India and the importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
Referring to the historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stressed to the Indian Defence Minister the importance of maintaining close, positive and continuous relations between Sri Lanka and India.
The two leaders also exchanged views on cooperation to ensure peace, security, stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region. They also discussed regional development and several other matters of common importance to both countries.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa pointed out that relations between the two countries should be further strengthened on the basis of mutual respect, sovereignty, equality, trust and understanding.
The importance of maintaining continuous engagement at all levels to further strengthen the long-standing friendship between the people of the two countries was also reiterated during the meeting.
