China to fund reconstruction of 14 bridges damaged by Cyclone Ditwah

The Cabinet has approved the signing of an agreement and the implementation of a project to reconstruct 14 bridges damaged by Cyclone Ditwah, following China’s agreement to provide financial assistance for the project.

Accordingly, the project will be implemented to reconstruct 14 bridges located in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, North Central and Eastern Provinces.

The project will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase focusing on the reconstruction of nine bridges within a period of 18 months. The Government of China will provide RMB 79 million in financial assistance for the reconstruction work under the first phase.

Accordingly, the Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development to sign an agreement between the Ministry and the Government of China for the implementation of the project and to declare the project as a specific project of the Government of Sri Lanka.
