Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Mujibur Rahman stated that although the government defeated the no-confidence motion against the Minister of Power, those involved in the alleged coal procurement scam will be brought before the law.

He said that opposition parties had long warned of irregularities in coal procurement and had presented a no-confidence motion in Parliament, which was defeated due to the government’s majority.

However, he claimed that the vote revealed public awareness of alleged corruption.

Rahman alleged that the scandal involves not only the minister but also those who supported and facilitated the process, including the President and the Cabinet.

He stated that the estimated loss to the state is around Rs. 22 billion, with further indirect losses yet to be calculated, and called for continued legal proceedings against all responsible parties.
