Airbus Transaction: Bail Bond Ordered to Be Forfeited to State
01-Oct-2026.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara on September 30, 2026, ordered the bail bond furnished by Priyanka Neomali Wijenayake, wife of Kapila Chandrasena, the second suspect arrested and subsequently released on bail in the Airbus transaction case involving SriLankan Airlines, to be forfeited to the State as she had failed to appear for the proceedings and had been absent from court.
At the time bail was granted to the suspect, personal bail amounting to approximately Rs.20 million had been imposed by the court. Former prominent cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his wife, Priyangi Neomali Wijenayake, had signed as sureties for the suspect.
However, investigating officers informed the court that the suspect had now fled to Australia. As the suspect had failed to appear in court for the proceedings, an open warrant had already been issued against her.
When the case was taken up yesterday, Aravinda de Silva and his wife were present in court.
The lawyer appearing for the sureties informed the court that they were prepared to deposit Rs.20 million in cash on the day.
After considering the submissions made before the court, the Magistrate ordered that Rs.20 million be deposited in court and that the remaining Rs.20 million of the bail bond be paid by October 17.
