Opposition parties are coming together on the 21st solely for political motives. We will not participate in that rally, said Patali Champika Ranawaka, Leader of the United Republican Front and former MP.

He made these remarks at a press conference held at the party office in Colombo on November 9.

He further stated:

The 2026 Budget presented by the President includes several commendable proposals. We are not inclined to criticise everything; we welcome the good.

Government expenditure has been reduced in this budget. However, there are no direct proposals to strengthen national industries.

The joint opposition rally is scheduled for the 21st in Nugegoda. It is an unnecessary rally. The people have given this government a mandate for five years.

Rallies and protests cannot topple a government. We will not participate.

The opposition lacks a unified policy. Before criticising the government, they should at least present an accepted policy framework, he said.
