Varanasi to shift all meat, fish shops outside city within 6 months
08-Jun-2026.
The Varanasi Municipal Corporation has approved a plan to relocate 350-400 meat and fish shops from city limits to five designated outskirts locations to improve cleanliness and urban management.
Despite traders' concerns about inconvenience and livelihood impact, officials aim to complete the move within six months. The relocation addresses long-standing issues of illegal markets and is expected to benefit public welfare and tourism. Authorities have identified sites and are beginning implementation while seeking a balanced solution.
