USD 600,000 missing in postal payment to US Postal Service
29-Apr-2026.
Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa stated that investigations have been launched by the CID and internal audit units into a missing payment of USD 600,000 made by the Sri Lanka Postal Department to the United States Postal Service.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet press briefing held on April 28, he said an official complaint had been received that the payment had not reached the intended recipient.
He added that investigations are underway to determine whether the issue was due to a technical failure or a deliberate financial fraud.
If any officials are found to have been involved, strict legal action will be taken, he said, adding that efforts are also underway to recover the lost funds through international cooperation.
He further noted that not all institutional issues are discussed at Cabinet level, as many are resolved through internal administrative mechanisms.
