US temporarily bans entry of green card holders over Ebola concerns
23-May-2026.
The US temporarily banned entry of lawful permanent residents who visited the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan within 21 days due to Ebola concerns. Previously exempt green card holders are now included to prevent virus spread, balancing public health and emergency resources.
The WHO raised the risk of Ebola's Bundibugyo strain to very high and declared the outbreaks emergencies. The CDC used Title 42 public health law to enforce this rare restriction on green card holders, who were historically exempt from such bans.
