US Ambassador Julie Chung Meets Senior Advisor to the President

Discussions between US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung and the President’s Senior Advisor on Science and Technology, Professor Gomika Udugamasooriya, were held at the US Embassy in Colombo.

The discussions focused on providing relief to people affected by Cyclone, rebuilding Sri Lanka, and the forthcoming National Research and Development Policy.

Special attention was given to potential joint projects between the two countries in these areas. Views were also exchanged on attracting US investment to Sri Lanka.

Opportunities to enhance cooperation in modern fields such as higher education, information technology, artificial intelligence, and digitalisation under the National Research and Development Policy were also explored.

Ambassador Julie Chung noted that strengthening Sri Lanka’s research and development ecosystem could open new pathways to access the US market and expressed US support for enhancing technological and scientific relations between the two countries.
