UK to Continue Support, Deputy Prime Minister Tells President

UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy assured full support for Sri Lanka’s reconstruction, human rights protection and reconciliation efforts during a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on 17 February.

The President thanked Lammy for visiting Sri Lanka as the country recovers from the economic crisis and Cyclone Ditwah, noting that the visit reinforced international confidence in Sri Lanka’s recovery.

He outlined plans to boost tourism, exports and foreign investment to earn foreign exchange and highlighted the UK’s unique role in supporting these efforts. 

The President also thanked the UK for support during the IMF program, debt restructuring and the removal of tariffs on Sri Lankan apparel exports.

Lammy reaffirmed the special relationship between the two countries and pledged continued support for Sri Lanka’s economic and social reforms.
