Central Bank of Sri Lanka Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe has said that the country’s economy is moving along a stable recovery path despite global uncertainties, and that this is the right time for both domestic and foreign investors to invest in Sri Lanka.

He made these remarks in an interview with Bloomberg following the ‘Invest Sri Lanka’ discussion events held in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.

He noted that Sri Lanka’s economy has recovered following the economic crisis that intensified in 2022 and has recorded growth of around 5 per cent in recent times.

The Governor also said that economic stability has remained strong despite various external shocks, including tensions arising from conflicts in the Middle East and challenges posed by climate change.

“The country’s economy is moving towards a growth trajectory. This is creating a favourable environment for both domestic and foreign investors. If anyone wishes to benefit from the sustainable growth Sri Lanka has achieved over the past three years and the growth expected in the coming years, this is the right time to invest in Sri Lanka,” Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe said.

He further explained that the stability of the Sri Lankan rupee, constructive monetary and fiscal policies, and strong confidence in the private sector have improved the country’s investment environment.

Meanwhile, acknowledging that Sri Lanka, as a fuel-importing country, would continue to be affected by rising fuel costs in global markets, the Governor noted that although the country benefits from renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind and solar power, it remains heavily dependent on imported fuel for electricity generation and transportation.

The Governor also expressed confidence that, despite recent inflationary pressures, inflation would reach the previously forecast level of 5 per cent by the end of this year or early next year.
