Tamil National Council meets Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin
19-Dec-2025.
A delegation of the Tamil National Council, led by Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Dec 18 at the Secretariat in Chennai.
They urged him to exert pressure through India’s central government to prevent the adoption of a “unitary state” constitution in Sri Lanka and to ensure a federal system recognizing Tamil nationhood, sovereignty, and the right to self-determination.
The meeting lasted about an hour and discussed constitutional reform and issues facing Eelam Tamil fishermen. A detailed letter outlining their demands was handed over to Chief Minister Stalin.
The letter argued that Sri Lanka’s proposed constitution fails Tamil aspirations, that the 13th Amendment and provincial council system are ineffective under a unitary framework, and that India’s involvement is crucial to securing a meaningful political solution recognizing Tamil self-determination within a federal structure.
