Tamil Nadu minister opposes Savarkar slogans

A row broke out at a temple festival in Kanyakumari after Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Sekar Babu was seen yelling at a group that raised slogans praising Vinayak Damodar Savarkar during the event.

The incident occurred during the ongoing Margazhi Perunthiruvizha festival, which began on Dec 25 at the Thaanumalaya Swamy Temple in Suchindram, where temple idols are traditionally taken out in different chariots as part of the rituals. 

On Jan 2, during the Thiru Therottam (chariot procession), Sekar Babu participated in the ceremony and flagged off the event by pulling the chariot.

As the procession was about to begin, a group of people started chanting slogans such as “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and praising Savarkar. Visibly upset, the minister was caught on camera admonishing the group, triggering a political controversy.
