Tamil Nadu govt orders probe into Periyar library books
07-Nov-2026.
The Tamil Nadu government is investigating allegations of factual errors, inflated pricing, and possible AI-generated content in books purchased for Coimbatore's Periyar Arivulagam library.
Writer Perumal Murugan criticized the procurement process, highlighting overpriced and inaccurate books, some from obscure publishers. Political leaders across parties accused the previous DMK government of corruption, demanding detailed probes.
The controversy surrounds a library project initiated by the Stalin-led DMK, raising concerns about misuse of public funds, academic integrity, and Tamil cultural heritage.
