Take Action Against Online Loan Mafia; Appeal by the Leader of the Opposition

Before more lives are lost, the government must investigate and take action against the online loan mafia, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa urged.

He said on November 13 in Parliament while making a special statement.

He further said:

It has come to light that a young woman named Himaya Sevventhi, from Welagedara in the Aththanagalla Divisional Secretariat area, took her own life after falling victim to an online loan mafia. The government must pay attention to this matter.

Many illegal institutions offering online loans are operating, and therefore a proper law must be implemented. The government must study this issue and present the measures it intends to take to eradicate this menace before more lives are lost, he said.
