Sridharan Leaves for Geneva

MP Sridharan is set to travel to Geneva to participate in a side event of the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council. He is also expected to attend several key meetings there.
The 60th UNHRC session began in Geneva on September 8.
On September 9, the first draft of a new resolution on Sri Lanka, titled “Promoting Reconciliation, Accountability, and Human Rights in Sri Lanka”, was tabled by the UK, supported by Canada, Malawi, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. A revised draft was issued last week.
Sridharan will attend today’s side event and is also expected to hold discussions with representatives of the UN Human Rights High Commissioner’s Office and the core group of countries led by the UK. Talks are expected to focus on Tamil issues in Sri Lanka.
