Sri Lankan cabinet approves leasing Presidential residences for tourism investments
30-Jul-2026.
The Cabinet has approved the long-term leasing of Presidential residences located in Bentota, Kataragama, Mahiyangana, Embilipitiya and Anuradhapura for tourism investment projects.
Although these residences were maintained in various parts of the country for official presidential duties and leisure purposes, the current President does not use them.
The Government has been required to spend considerable funds on maintaining and protecting these residences, which possess unique architectural features, attractive landscaping and modern facilities.
Accordingly, action has been taken based on recommendations made by a committee appointed to examine economically productive ways of utilising Government-owned holiday resorts and Presidential residences.
The Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by the President to invite investment proposals from suitable investors to provide these Presidential residences on long-term leases for tourism-related projects.
