Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan Sign Bilateral Cooperation Agreement

Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation, marking a significant milestone in the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

The agreement was signed during the inaugural Political Consultations held in Tashkent. Sri Lanka's Foreign Secretary Aruni Ranaraja and Uzbekistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Aloyev Bakhrom led their respective delegations.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, tourism, logistics and education. Both sides also welcomed the launch of seasonal direct flights between the two countries. Opportunities for collaboration in apparel manufacturing, tea packaging, seafood exports and the gemstone industry were also explored. The next round of political consultations will be held in Colombo in 2027.
