South Korea Offers Increased Job Opportunities for Sri Lankan Workers
31-Jul-2025.

A significant number of job opportunities are currently available in South Korea, aligning with the government’s employment initiative aimed at securing higher wages and healthier job conditions for Sri Lankan workers.
According to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), a successful dialogue has been concluded with the local government institution in Pohang, South Korea, regarding seasonal employment under the E8 visa category. Approval has been obtained from the Cabinet to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) relating to this initiative.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, submitted the relevant Cabinet memorandum. Through this proposed MoU, Sri Lankan workers will be eligible to work for up to eight months in agricultural villages in Pohang under South Korea’s seasonal employment scheme.
Cabinet approval was also granted for two previous submissions made by Minister Herath on February 19 and July 1, proposing a pilot project to streamline the recruitment of Sri Lankan workers under the E8 visa category and to engage in discussions with interested local government institutions in South Korea.
Previously, Cabinet approval was obtained to sign a similar MoU with Yeongwol County, South Korea, covering the fisheries and agriculture sectors. The SLBFE stated that the next steps toward signing that MoU are underway.
The Bureau further stated that the public will be informed about the recruitment procedures and necessary arrangements through official government notifications. It also cautioned the public to rely solely on official announcements and to beware of financial fraudsters who exploit job seekers with false promises.
