Prime Minister Harini Meets Senior UNDP Delegation

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has stated that the government is focused on fulfilling public expectations by rebuilding the nation based on trust and good governance, following the people’s mandate secured at the parliamentary election.
Speaking during a meeting with a senior delegation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), held alongside the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum currently taking place in Davos, Switzerland, the Prime Minister made these remarks while engaging in a series of high-level bilateral meetings with representatives of the European Union, the United Nations, and the global private sector.
During a meeting with European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib, the Prime Minister expressed her gratitude for the support extended by the European Union and its member states following Cyclone Ditwah. She also briefed the Commissioner on key findings of the World Bank’s “GRATE” report and requested continued EU support for Sri Lanka’s development and recovery efforts.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister met with Alexander De Croo in his capacity as Administrator of the UNDP, commending the long-standing partnership between Sri Lanka and the United Nations, while also expressing appreciation for UN assistance in flood relief and livelihood support.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Prime Minister stated that rebuilding the nation on the foundations of public trust and good governance remains a priority. She further reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s dedication to strengthening social protection systems and safeguarding vulnerable communities.
Discussions also focused on further strengthening bilateral relations with particular emphasis on education and skills development. The Prime Minister expressed Sri Lanka’s interest in learning from Singapore’s experience in advancing vocational education, noting the significant role played by Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam in that process.
The possibility of a monitoring and study visit to explore avenues for knowledge-sharing between the two countries was also proposed during the discussions.
