President Must Demonstrate Progress, Not Optics: Mano Ganesan

Mano Ganesan, Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance and Member of Parliament, urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to move beyond symbolic gestures and demonstrate tangible progress by fulfilling election promises.
He made these remarks at the same commemorative event held on March 1 at the Colombo Tamil Sangam.
Ganesan stated that the entire government appears to revolve around President Dissanayake alone. “He visits Jaffna and goes on walks. He travels to the Hill Country and shakes hands with plantation workers. But key election promises remain unfulfilled,” he said.
Among the pending commitments, he cited the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, the release of political prisoners, land releases, and granting land ownership rights to Hill Country Tamils.
He emphasized that rather than focusing on appearances, the President must prioritize implementing the promises made during the election campaign.
Ganesan also reflected on the late Bharathi Rajanayagam’s contributions, describing him as a quiet yet influential figure in journalism. He noted that Rajanayagam had long dreamed of unity among Tamil nationalist parties and expressed concern over ongoing divisions among parties in the North and East.
