President Anura Kumara’s Thai Pongal Message
16-Jan-2026.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that this year should offer hope and resilience for the nation to rise again in the aftermath of disaster.
In his Thai Pongal message, he further said:
Thai Pongal is celebrated on January 15 with devotion and enthusiasm by Hindu devotees worldwide. The festival expresses gratitude to the Sun God, livestock, and Mother Nature for a successful harvest.
While Thai Pongal symbolizes prosperity and gratitude, it is not merely a celebration of harvest but also a call to embark on a new journey with courage and hope.
Following the recent major natural disaster, we have come together as a nation, with determination and tireless effort, to undertake an unprecedented reconstruction initiative. On this auspicious occasion of Thai Pongal, I once again urge everyone to strengthen their cooperation with this program.
At a time when the need to reconnect with nature is felt more strongly than ever, this festival, deeply rooted in harmony with nature, adds profound meaning to our lives and society.
We firmly believe that light follows darkness. I pray that this year’s Thai Pongal will be a blessing for our united and determined journey toward building a “Prosperous Nation – Beautiful Life.” I extend my Thai Pongal wishes to all Tamil people in Sri Lanka and around the world.
