President Acting Like Previous Rulers: Udaya Gammanpila

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader and former MP Udaya Gammanpila stated that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is acting no differently from past rulers.

Speaking to the media after an event held in Colombo on Dec 26 Gammanpila said the appointment of the Auditor General would be made only after the term of the civil members of the Constitutional Council ends on the 2nd of next month.

He claimed that all promises made by President Dissanayake before coming to power have now been proven false and none have been fulfilled. He further alleged that members of the ruling party are behaving irrationally.

Gammanpila accused the President of deliberately keeping the Auditor General’s position vacant in order to appoint a former university friend to the post. He said the three civil members of the Constitutional Council had acted independently and resisted government pressure, opposing the President’s recommendation, which led to the proposal being withdrawn.

He further claimed that once the terms of the civil members expire, government-aligned individuals would be appointed, allowing the President to fulfill his objective.
