In honour of the Maaveerar (War Heroes), the Chairman of the Poonakari Pradeshiya Sabha has called for all commercial activities in Poonakari to be suspended on November 27, and has requested the public to participate in remembrance events.
In an official statement, he announced that markets under the purview of the council will remain closed, slaughterhouses will be shut, and meat shops will not operate that day.
He also requested bars, liquor outlets, and similar establishments to remain closed, and urged employees to attend the memorial events at Thuyilum Illams.
He further appealed for all recreational events to be suspended and for competitions in public grounds to be avoided. Residents of Muzhangavil and Vadiyadi were asked to decorate their neighbourhoods with red and yellow flags.
Meanwhile, the Thuyilum Illam in Muzhangavil, which had been demolished earlier, is currently being rebuilt following the model of the Thuyilum Illams in the northeast.
