Police Headquarters Denies Indian Involvement in Easter Sunday Attacks
11-Oct-2025.
Police Headquarters has denied reports claiming that former Senior Deputy Inspector General and current Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Ravi Seneviratne, informed a high-level parliamentary committee that India was involved in the Easter Sunday bombings.
A media release issued by the Police Media Division on October 9, stated:
“False reports have been circulated suggesting that the main mastermind behind the Easter attacks has been identified and that India was involved, based on statements supposedly made by Mr. Ravi Seneviratne before a high-level parliamentary committee. These claims are entirely false.”
Mr. Seneviratne clarified that he appeared before the committee on October 8, upon summons and only responded to questions posed by the members. He emphasized that at no point did he make any statement suggesting Indian involvement in the Easter Sunday attacks.
“I completely reject the reports currently being circulated. They are entirely untrue,” he affirmed.
Police Headquarters further stated that the Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya, has instructed an investigation into those responsible for spreading the false news and has directed his legal team to take appropriate legal action against them.
