Police Bengaluru registered FIR against five professors

Police in Bengaluru have registered an FIR against five professors and the principal of a private dental college in Bengaluru, following allegations that a student died by suicide after enduring persistent harassment and humiliation related to her skin colour. 

The victim, Yashaswini, was found dead last week.

According to a complaint filed by her mother Parimala, Yashaswini was subjected to mental harassment and humiliation by her professors.

Parimala has alleged that her daughter was mocked about her skin colour in front of classmates, with professors remarking, “You are dark-skinned, do you even deserve to become a doctor?”

The police have confirmed that a case has been registered and investigations are underway. Law enforcement officials are gathering witness statements and reviewing the complaint as pressure mounts from the student community for a thorough probe.
