Plan to Attract Tourists from Countries Without War

The Presidential Task Force appointed to implement Sri Lanka’s tourism development programme met on March 26 at the Presidential Office under the chairmanship of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath.
Attention was drawn to the issues faced by stakeholders in the tourism sector amid the current global energy crisis. Discussions were held on plans to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to the sector and provide the support required to continue operations.
Focus was also placed on tourist arrivals, proper maintenance of hotels and tourist destinations, and plans to attract tourists from countries not affected by war.
In addition, the progress of the ongoing Beira Lake cleaning project was reviewed.
Discussions were also held regarding problems in the film tourism sector and possible solutions.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Senior Economic Advisor to the President Duminda Hulangamuwa, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government S. Aloka Bandara, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Aruni Ranaraaja, and several others participated in the meeting.
