Palestinians Rendered Helpless in Their Own Homeland: Palestinian Ambassador
17-Jan-2026.
The Palestinian people have become helpless in their own homeland, demonstrating the highest spirit of sacrifice without any concern for their own lives, stated the Palestinian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Ihab M. Khalil.
He made these remarks while addressing the book launch of “The Heritage of a Homeland Trampled by a Superpower”, held on 13 January at the Lighthouse Auditorium in Colombo. The event was organised under the theme “Echoes of Palestine” by the Palestine–Sri Lanka Solidarity Committee in collaboration with the Embassy of Palestine to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The book, authored by writer, former minister, and Co-Chair of the Palestine–Sri Lanka Solidarity Committee, Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, stands as a literary and historical record highlighting the struggles of the Palestinian people.
Speaking further, the Ambassador noted that the book is dedicated to journalists who devoted their entire lives to raising global awareness about the immense suffering endured by the Palestinian people, and who ultimately sacrificed their lives in that pursuit.
The struggle to liberate Palestine, regarded as the last remaining colonial state in the world, has continued from the previous century into the present one. What Palestine faces today is an extraordinarily brutal and catastrophic tragedy.
He added that this publication is not merely a compilation of parliamentary records, but a powerful document bearing witness to the solidarity between Palestine and Sri Lanka. It strongly encourages a new generation of activists, academics, and policymakers in Sri Lanka and around the world to join the global movement for justice, while further strengthening the historically rooted friendship and mutual respect between Palestine and Sri Lanka.
