Opposition Leaders Urge Ranil Wickremesinghe to Return to Parliament

Opposition leaders and members have urged former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to return to Parliament, though he did not provide a direct response.

A special meeting was held at his political office in Colombo on 1 January. UNP member Saman Rathnapriya stated that discussions focused on governance weaknesses, lack of coordination, and administrative inefficiencies.

Opposition representatives warned that unless these issues are addressed, national progress would be difficult. They reiterated their call for Wickremesinghe’s return to Parliament, noting that he would not remain passive if the country faced serious decline.

Positive discussions were also reported between the UNP and Samagi Jana Balawegaya regarding future political cooperation.
