Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa released a statement on September 6, urging the government to guarantee the constitutional right to life, amid daily shootings by unidentified gunmen.

He said critics of the government, including activists and politicians, are facing threats. Social media voices are being silenced through intimidation, which he described as an attack on democracy.

Premadasa stressed that it is the duty of the government to investigate and stop these threats. He pledged full cooperation in initiatives aimed at protecting the public, but warned that violence and lawlessness must be curbed immediately.
