Opposition Leader Comments on India-China Relations

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said Sri Lanka’s position on the complex India-China relationship is to prioritize its special strategic partnership with India while maintaining relations with all countries.

He reaffirmed support for India’s long-standing bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, saying it reflects global power realities.

In an interview with ANI during his India visit, he said India cannot be sidelined and UN reform must reflect geopolitical realities.

On Sri Lanka’s stance regarding India-China ties, he said Sri Lanka values its special strategic relationship with India while working with all nations to promote peace.

He added that Sri Lanka seeks to act as a mediator to promote harmony across regions.
