Financial scams through online platforms have increased during the festive season and disaster situation. 

The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team warns the public to avoid suspicious links, protect personal information, be cautious with unknown websites, and never disclose one-time passwords.

Social media has seen a surge in scams and fraudulent attempts to exploit public trust. 

Cybercriminals are impersonating government agencies and falsely claiming to provide relief, urging people to transfer money. Some individuals have lost all money from their bank accounts due to unauthorized access.

The public is urged to carefully verify any online requests for funds, as no government agency will request sensitive information via social media or online links.
