Norway Pledges USD 2 Million in Aid, Says Minister for International Development

Norway has provided approximately USD 2 million in financial assistance to Sri Lanka following the disaster caused by Cyclone, according to Norway’s Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust.
Hundreds have died and hundreds of thousands have lost their homes and livelihoods due to flooding and landslides triggered by Cyclone. In this context, international countries, NGOs, and private institutions are providing assistance to Sri Lanka through various means.
Commenting on Norway’s assistance, Minister Aukrust stated that Norway is providing essential immediate support to people who have lost their homes and livelihoods. He emphasized the importance of ensuring proper delivery of shelter, food, healthcare, and reconstruction support to affected communities.
He further noted that Norway has donated approximately USD 2 million to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and United Nations offices in Sri Lanka to support relief efforts.
The Minister stressed that during large-scale disasters, countries like Norway must step forward to assist affected communities in rebuilding.
