Northern Province Hit by Major Power Outage

A 13-hour power cut across four districts of the Northern Province (excluding Mannar) on October 26 severely disrupted daily life and business activities.

Electricity was cut from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Vavuniya districts due to maintenance work on the 220 kV Mannar–Vavuniya transmission line.

Although advance notice was issued, some traders, especially those selling refrigerated goods, suffered losses.

As it was a Sunday, many residents were at home, facing significant inconvenience without power or internet access.
