No Fuel Price Revision This Month, Says Ceylon Petroleum Corporation
04-Mar-2026.
Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Janaka Rajakaruna, stated that even if global fuel prices fluctuate due to war, price changes in Sri Lanka will occur only according to the fuel pricing formula. He confirmed that there will be no fuel price revisions this month.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo on March 3, 2026, he noted that fuel distribution continued even during holidays on March 1 and 2. On March 2 alone, 13.28 million liters of diesel, 11.72 million liters of Octane 92 petrol, 848,000 liters of another petrol category, 565,000 liters of kerosene, and 343,000 liters of super diesel were distributed.
Distribution on March 2 was double the usual volume. Between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. on March 3, 815,740 liters of diesel, 481,800 liters of 92 petrol, 19,800 liters of super diesel, and 39,600 liters of 95 petrol were distributed. Fuel is being supplied without interruption based on demand.
He stated that even if Iran were to close or attack the Strait of Hormuz, Sri Lanka’s petrol and diesel supply would not be affected. Sri Lanka imports petrol and diesel from India, Singapore, and South Korea, and these supplies do not pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Fuel supply schedules are already secured until April.
Although crude oil typically comes from the Gulf region, current shipments are being loaded from secure locations. If the conflict continues, alternative sourcing from countries such as Nigeria, the United States, or Venezuela has already been considered.
He noted that the number of fuel suppliers to Sri Lanka has increased from three or four to more than ten, reducing supply chain risks. He reaffirmed that there will be no fuel shortage this month.
He added that if global fuel prices rise due to war, it will affect not only Sri Lanka but the entire world. In such cases, prices will be adjusted strictly according to the pricing formula. The Corporation does not aim to make excessive profits at the expense of the public, and prices are determined based on costs.
