National Women's Commission Meets Prime Minister

Representatives of Sri Lanka's Independent National Women's Commission met Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at Temple Trees on July 4 to discuss progress in implementing the Women's Empowerment Act, No. 37 of 2024.

Commission members briefed the Prime Minister on the institution's work, highlighting that it is Sri Lanka's first independent statutory body mandated to promote, protect and advance women's rights while implementing the national agenda for women's empowerment.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya commended the Commission's progress and reaffirmed the government's support for its efforts to strengthen women's rights, gender equality and empowerment.

The meeting was attended by Commission Chairperson Grace Asirwatham, Commissioners Jayanthi Guru-Uthumpala, Janaha Selvarajah, Dr. Padma Gunaratne, M.U. Gayani, Executive Director K.T.R. Olga and other officials.
