Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, highlighted India’s recognition of its longstanding relationship with Sri Lanka during a reception aboard the Indian Navy ship INS Vikrant, where he served as the chief guest.

He remarked that the event formed an important part of the 75th-anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lankan Navy. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the long-standing maritime heritage connecting Sri Lanka with the Indian Ocean community.

Minister Jayatissa extended appreciation on behalf of the Sri Lankan government to the Indian government and the Indian Navy for honoring this milestone. He noted that the participation of India’s domestically built aircraft carriers, INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri, in international naval exercises demonstrates the importance India places on its enduring ties with Sri Lanka.

He emphasized that this cooperation underscores the significance of collaboration, connectivity, and shared security in the maritime domain. Sri Lanka is committed to ensuring that the Indian Ocean remains a region of peace, stability, and mutual benefit, consistent with India’s vision of shared maritime responsibilities.

Both nations have developed a strong and growing partnership in the maritime sector, engaging in joint naval exercises, coordinated patrols, hydrographic cooperation, disaster response, capacity building, and maritime awareness initiatives. These efforts enhance collective security and contribute to regional stability and economic prosperity.
