Minister Sunil Hendunnetti has filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department, noting that a social media post was being circulated that misrepresented his voice recording and thereby caused defamation to his reputation.

The complaint relates to a recorded conversation reportedly between the importer and Minister Hendunnetti regarding the release of five containers of government goods imported without authorization, which was later circulated on social media.

Following the complaint, the Minister issued a statement to the media indicating that he had investigated the matter after receiving information about the unauthorized import of five containers at the Colombo Port.

He emphasized that those involved should be held accountable for penalties related to the unauthorized import, including port charges. He noted that the conversation had been recorded and deliberately edited before being circulated on social media to cause defamation. Consequently, he has requested that investigations be conducted into this defamatory act.

Meanwhile, comments made by Thuminda Dissanayake and Mujibur Rahman regarding the release of 309 containers have already been investigated, and no disclosures or irregularities were found.

There is currently no matter to discuss regarding unauthorized imports, and legal action should proceed as appropriate. Questions were raised about the reason for discussing this issue.
