Measures discussed to curb online financial fraud, says Chinese Ambassador

The Chinese Ambassador and Sri Lanka's Minister of Public Security have discussed measures to curb online financial fraud, which has emerged as a major challenge in the country, through joint cooperation between the two nations.

A meeting between Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala and Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Wei Huaxiang was held on October 2, 2026, at the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs.

The two sides held cordial discussions on further strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between the countries and on cooperation programmes to be implemented in the future in the field of public security.

Particular attention was given to the next steps required to combat online financial fraud through joint efforts by the two countries, in view of the growing seriousness of the problem.

Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ravi Seneviratne also participated in the meeting.
