Marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu hailed the official visit of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake as a pivotal step toward a prosperous, integrated economic future for both nations.

Speaking at the official banquet hosted on July 28 at Kurumba Maldives, President Muizzu emphasized the importance of economic cooperation and expressed eagerness to collaborate with Sri Lanka to enhance regional stability and prosperity.

He noted that the longstanding bilateral ties now extend beyond traditional trade in dried fish to modern sectors such as tourism, digital technology, defense cooperation, and cultural exchanges. This diversification, he said, reflects the shared vision of both countries to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving world.

Highlighting long-standing cooperation in education, health, and human resource development, Muizzu said this has laid a firm foundation for current economic expansion. He also expressed confidence that recent high-level talks would help unlock untapped economic resources to benefit citizens of both nations.

He further noted that for generations, Maldivians have regarded Sri Lanka not just as a partner but as a second home, with strong interpersonal and institutional bonds that now underpin the growing economic relationship.
